All-purpose guide to campus ethnic and minority resources
Women's Organizations
The Yale Women's Center, a base for several on-campus groups concerned
with women's issues, organizes discussion forums, hosts speakers, and holds
weekly coffee hours. Staffed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., the Center also
maintains a small library and archive.
Cultural Organizations
Organizations that support and promote the interests of Africans, African
Americans, and people of African descent include the Yale College African
Students Association, the Black Students Alliance at Yale
(BSAY), the Black Political Forum, and the Yale Chapter of the
NAACP.
The Latin American Students Organization (LASO), Despierta
Boricua (DB), and Movimiento Estudiantíl Chicano de
Aztlán (MEChA) are all campus groups that work to unite and
represent the voice of Latino students at Yale.
Asian-American students can find support in a number of organizations
dedicated to furthering the interests of specific Asian and Asian-American
ethnic groups. These include the Chinese-American Students Association
(CASA), the Hong Kong Club, the Yale College Japan
Association, Kasame (the Society of Filipino and Filipino-American
Students at Yale), the Korean-American Students of Yale College
(KASY), the South Asian Society (SAS), the Yale College
Taiwanese Club, and the Vietnamese Students Association
(ViSA). Other on-campus groups are concerned with the interests of the
Asian-American community as a whole. The Asian-American Students
Association (AASA) serves as an umbrella organization for many other
groups, and the Asian-American Women's Group works to further the
interests of all women of Asian descent.
Other cultural groups include the Yale College Chapter of the Arab-American
Anti-Discrimination Committee, the Association of Native Americans at
Yale College, the Yale College Carribean Club, the Yale College
Hellenic Society, and the Yale College Italian Society.
The Ethnic Community Relations Council (ECRC) exists to promote
cross-cultural interaction and learning at Yale. The International Students
Organization represents over 50 countries and supports international
students as they face the challenge of attending a foreign university.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
and Transgender Organizations
The Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered Co-op (the Co-op), a
cooperative group dedicated to fostering and encouraging an environment in
which members of the Yale community can express themselves freely, sponsors
various confidential discussion groups for the Yale community. The Co-op also
monitors Yale policies by both protesting and presenting alternatives to those
policies that discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.
YaLesbians and GAYalies address the concerns of women and men of
differing sexual orientations at Yale. Prism, based in the Women's
Center, is a confidential discussion group that addresses the intersection of
race and sexual orientation.
