Yale's cultural and religious organizations

With all the bustle of freshman year—new roommates, challenging classes, all-night parties—some students feel lost. However, there are a variety of cultural and religious organizations that offer every student a place to call home amid the vastness of Yale.

Cultural Centers

Afro-American Cultural Center

211 Park St.

Asian American Cultural Center

295 Crown St.

La Casa Cultural, the Latino Cultural Center

301 Crown St.

With their many lectures and parties, Yale's three cultural centers provide a lively and important focus for minority life on campus.

The cultural houses have kitchens, libraries, and computer rooms and serve as "homes away from home" where minority students can gather regardless of residential college affiliation. Be sure to check out the frequent great dances at the cultural houses.

Religious Centers

Luther House, Lutheran Campus Ministry at Yale

27 High St.

St. Thomas More House, Catholic Center and Chapel at Yale

268 Park St.

Slifka Center for Jewish Life

80 Wall St.

Fifty years after William F. Buckley, Jr., DC '50, branded Yale a bastion of atheism, religious life at Yale is alive and well. In addition to its many religious groups, Yale's official religious centers offer places for students to congregate and enjoy meals, lectures, and religious services.

Cultural Groups

Association of Native Americans at Yale (ANAAY)

Black Student Alliance at Yale (BSAY)

Chinese American Students' Association (CASA)

Despierta Boricua (Puerto Rican Undergraduate Student Association at Yale) Kasama: Filipino Students at Yale

Korean American Students Organization at Yale (KASY)

Malaysian and Singaporean Association (MASA)

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán at Yale (MEChA)

Vietnamese Students Association

Taiwanese American Students (TAS)

Yale South Asian Society (SAS)

Yale's cultural groups serve as unifying bodies for students from many cultures. And when dining hall food gets to you, just head to one of the various cultural groups' meals.

Religious Groups

Latter Day Saints Students Association

Muslim Students Association

Orthodox Christian Fellowship

Yale Buddhist Society

Yale Hillel

Yale Students for Christ

Many students find their closest friends through Yale's diverse religious groups. Several are associated with a specific religious center, such as the Slifka Center for Jewish Life, but many of them are organized by individual students. The Chaplain's Office, in the basement of Bingham Hall on Old Campus, acts as a coordinator for all of Yale's religious groups.

Other Centers and Groups

Yale Women's Center

198 Elm St.

The Women's Center hosts a variety of speakers and performers related to women's issues. Other organizations also meet at the Center.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Cooperative at Yale (LGBT Co-op)

The LGBT Co-op is the umbrella organization for all the queer groups on campus (including GaYalies, Not-Straight Frosh, YaLesbians and BiWays), and organizes a number of student events throughout the year. Their dances are known campus-wide as among the best of the year.
