Bikini Kill

Watch out men-the girls are coming to town. This Sunday at 8:30 p.m., Bikini Kill with Team Dresch and Cold Cold Hearts will (punk) rock out the Morse College Dining Hall as part of their East Coast tour, providing a refreshing change of pace from the usual frat rock offered by Toad's and the ska-hardcore scene at the Tune Inn.

Hailing from the indie label Kill Rock Stars, Bikini Kill have won an enthusiastic following with their songs about girl revolution in a repressive society. The discovery of Bikini Kill's personal-as-political lyrics has become a rite of passage for many young women, and the band has garnered a wide fan base while remaining firmly rooted in an underground network of punk-rock feminism. Meanwhile, lead singer Kathleen Hanna is notorious for getting people's goats onstage, making live shows especially exciting. Recordings just don't do this band justice.

The members of Team Dresch, who readily classify their own music as "dyke punk," hail from a number of illustrious bands including Hazel, Vitapup, and Adickdid; bassist and band namesake Donna Dresch has played with Dinosaur Jr. The melodic, poppy punk of Team Dresch's first LP, Personal Best, has won wide acclaim in indie circles. Rounding out the bill is Cold Cold Hearts, an incarnation of the short-lived punk-surf rock band Bratmobile.

The Sunday show will be the first installment of the WYBC/sack am Concert Series. Upcoming acts include Yo La Tengo, the Swirlies, Karate, and the Push Kings. The Yale Round Table will also sponsor an informal discussion with the women of Bikini Kill and Team Dresch in the Trumbull College Common Room on Sunday at 4 p.m. Participation is limited to 40, so get there early.
