From menu changes, to dining hall renovations, to the flex dollar program, Director of Dining Halls Al Kenney, JE '67, does it all. As the man in charge of overseeing Yale's 25 dining halls, Kenney makes it a point to actively involve students in the changing menu process.
Born in New Haven and a resident of the Elm City ever since, Kenney graduated from Yale in 1967 as an American Studies major. As an undergraduate, he played football, "but I got hurt so fast that I really didn't get to play," Kenney said.
At home, Kenney enjoys the company of his wife and three daughters with the eldest following her father's footsteps as a graduate of Yale (SY '90). In his rare moments of free time, Kenney enjoys playing golf and watching sports, especially college basketball, as well as gardening. For the warmer months, Kenney owns a boat and when not in the office, he can sometimes be found eating lunch with students.
Does Kenney see any differences in Yale since he was a student? "Well, Yale wasn't coed back then, so that made for a lot of changes," Kenney said. After graduation, Kenney worked in accounting until his 1981 appointment. "A lot of good people work at Yale, and a lot of good people work for me," Kenney said.
