Davenport College IMs

Machiavelli, ever the astute observer of intramural dynamics, and one helluva bowler (I hear), observed that "one ought to be both feared and loved." And so it shall be with the Davenport women's field hockey team. Within these walls, Yale's most beautiful walls, they are already much loved. Beyond the cozy confines of D-port, however, past opponents try to figure out what truck ran over them, while future opponents await game day like the condemned wait for the guillotine.

This past week, under the enthusiastic direction of Captain Chrystie Perry "winkle" '98, the troops (along with one game Piersonite) enjoyed a 4-0 blanking of Saybrook-Trumbull. Sandy Enuha "thing or two about field hockey" '99 patrolled the center of the field with artful stickwork, while cohorts Perry and Abby "Georg Friedrich" Hendel '99 joined her on the front line. Enuha had an impressive goal to her credit, while Perry just fell short of completing the hat trick. But of course a shutout ain't a shutout without a little D, and Abby "This ain't no" Slear "campaign" '98 was the Minister of Defense. So a solid right-on to the field hockey folks for their rockin'-dare I say fear-inspiring-start to the season.

Let me end with a gentle suggestion: get the hell out and play Davensports! We promise (God, I hope this isn't legally binding) that you're not gonna fail your class after taking part of a beautiful afternoon to play. All of our teams, even field hockey, continue to search for able and willing-or just warm-bodies. Consider it community service, if you like.
