A 60-year-old Nigerian man was crushed to death by an elephant while trying to collect the elephant's fresh dung for use in traditional medicine. The elephant, very possessive of its feces, proceeded to go on a rampage in the small village of Bokkos, in the northeast of the country, injuring five other people before being shot dead.

Hungry Hungry Hippos

The Warsaw Zoo, looking to get rid of two hippopatumae, placed an ad in the Gazeta Wyborczaa that read, "To adopt a hippopotamus, call 619-7775." According to a zoo spokesman, the hippos' father will no longer let the one- and three-year-old hippos remain in the small zoo pond. To adopt the hippo, potential caretakers have to prove that they can spend $250/month for the next 40 years to feed the hippos, as well as to provide heated ponds so the hippos don't freeze in the cold Polish winter.

Thirst-quencher

A teacher in the southern province of Guangxi, China was fired last month after the Guangming Daily reported that he had forced his 12-year-old students to drink urine. According to the paper, "some of the children were taken ill with vomiting and others rushed to a nearby pond to rinse out thier mouths." GESO has lodged a complaint that the teacher is being punished for his innovative techniques, and should be rehired with back-pay.

NY offers twist on Toys for Guns

Police officials in New York were looking for 400 guns after Edward Villegas, a deliveryman taking guns from John F. Kennedy airport in New York to New Jersey decided to give them away for free crack-cocaine. One police officer said, "We heard they were calling him Santa Claus on the street."
