WYBC hit by luuhhhhhhveBy Flynn EckenrodeSex, gossip, romance, and, well, more sex. Sound like the plot of a typical Aaron Spelling production? Maybe, but more importantly, it's also the planned programming agenda for Yale's newest and steamiest live radio call-in show, "Love Talk." Premiering this Wed., Oct. 2, at 11 p.m. on 94.3 FM WYBC, "Love Talk" is a frank show about making love and love-in-the-making at Yale--and Melrose Place it isn't. Hosted by the self-proclaimed "journeymen of love" Jeremiah Meredith and Jake Halpern, both MC '97, the show will tackle the questions, problems, and stubborn realities that face Yale's hormone-driven undergrads in search of love. Weekly guests and pre-recorded campus interviews on various themes, ranging from the innocuous ("The Break Up," "The Blind Date") to the credible ("Morning Regrets," "He/She is Much Older") to the downright outrageous ("Menage à Trois," "Deviant Sex"), will set the framework for a primarily spontaneous call-in format that the hosts hope will spark lively, informative, and honest discussions. "Our bread and butter will be the callers," Meredith said, "but this kind of show also depends a lot on the chemistry of the two people involved. Our hope, ideally, is to put on a program that is something of a cross between `Jagger and Dr. Judy' and `Car Talk,' but without the Boston accents." In keeping with the precedent set by Dr. Judy, Meredith and Halpern hope to feature the comments and advice of a female sex therapist appearing on a semi-regular basis. "She'll be more qualified to deal with the technical side of things," Halpern explained. Asked how they came up with the idea for the show, Meredith responded, "It's something that we've been talking about doing since freshman year, and we finally just decided to take a proposal to WYBC. It was pretty late notice, and we thought they would just give us the run-around, but the station manager told us to be ready in two weeks, so we're really excited." With their debut less than a week away, Meredith and Halpern "are definitely looking forward to a lot of student involvement," Halpern said, "whether as callers, guests, or just listeners." "Love Talk" airs Wednesday from 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. on 94.3 FM WYBC. The "Love Talk" hotline number is 2-9433.
