Ezra Stiles Intramurals

It was clear but cold as the troops marched to the battlefield. Seven senior Stiles men, ready to fight their final battle, approached the John J. Lee Amphitheater, prepared to brave the extra space of the floor. It was the Big Dance, and it was that one last opportunity. One last chance to prove their superiority. One last chance to walk away victoriously. One last chance to prove to the world the incredible power of the Moose. One last chance for the c-hoops team to get a win this season.

The game was against Davenport--the other team that had yet to reach paydirt. One team would have to walk away winless, making the long winter a bitter, dark and dreary experience. For these Stiles seniors, there would be no next year. The lone win would have to come now.

Led by their fearless leader, "General" Steve "We gots ta go" Oster '97, the Stiles soldiers struggled to victory. Charles "Watch my nose" Borden, '97, Mark "God bless those p-" Hagan "s" '97, Chris "Pass it to me a-" Gansen "I'll score" '97, Sonny "Days are here again" Bansal '97, Nate "I have never miss-" Stinnett '97, and Kris "Defense is all about" Shields '97, all refused to lose, and almost even scored in double digits for each half. In the end, the smothering defense was enough, and the Davenport c-hoopsters just couldn't keep up with the Stilesian studs. That meant a victory for Stiles, and we were finally able to obtain that elusive 1-4 record.

So now the c-hoops season is over, and the vaunted Moose can turn its attention to other matters. Coed waterpolo, for example, has found the winning combination--but more on that next week. A- and b- hoops are ready to end the season with a bang as well, taking to the court like a fly to honey. Luckily for other colleges, women's hoops is over, and bowling and squash will be soon, but ice hockey and men's and women's volleyball have plenty of time to continue to make other teams' knees buckle.

Okay, so maybe it hasn't been the best winter ever for the perennial powerhouse. But don't count us out, Yale, 'cause there's a full season left, and the Moose is ready to roar. Ever see what happens when a moose gets momentum? It's a very ugly thing, and the other 11 colleges are about to find out...

(Compiled by a moose on the loose who wants to call a truce because he is an obtuse recluse. At least he has style.)
