Calhoun Intramurals
The miraculous success of Calhoun's Fall IMs has carried
over into 1997, and with other franchises in shambles after a dismal first
half, Calhoun is making sure that the leaders are checking for Cole Trickle in
their rear-view mirrors. Nowhere is that more evident than on the b-hoops
basketball court. Recently acquired from the struggling a-hoops team, Scott
"L'il Penny" Seelbach '97 singlehandedly pulled the 'Houn through a tough game
against Morse last week to extend the 'Houn's unbeaten streak. Next week, in
what should ultimately decide the b-hoops champion, Calhoun faces Tyng leader
TD in the ampitheatre, and Fellow Mr. "Daddy" MacElhiney, our towering center,
urges all 'Hounies to watch him block shots left and right and cheer for
Calhoun glory. The ball-handling of Mike "Damon" Bailey '97 and persistence of
Mike "All-Show" Choe '97 have added stability and senior leadership to this
title-seeking squad, while Adrian "The Body" Thomas '98 is known for his deadly
three-point shot and his occasional elbow to the face. Wish these men luck as
they do battle next week.
The men's volleyball team has also put itself in a position to take the title,
beating the number one team and shaving off some excess numbers to refine its
overall talent. With the setting and spiking of Vanya "Killer Loop" Douglas '98
and the unorthodox ball control of Matt "Sinjin" Morgado '98, the team poses a
deadly threat to all of the Tyng Cup seekers. I've never actually seen this
team play, so I don't know who else is on the team, but I'm sure they do a good
job, too.
I have trekked to Payne Whitney to witness the Calhoun inner-tube water polo
squad. Perhaps playing the most entertaining and physically challenging game
IMs have to offer, Angela "Jaws" Campbell '99 punishes the opposing team, with
no mercy in her dunks. Playing a more refined style is Stephanie "The Fin"
Frankel '98 whose finesse style allows her to glide through the water with
ease. Sarah "The Hack" Black '99 loves to get in the middle of a loose ball
fight and has been known to shoot and even score on longshots. Alas, Calhoun
has plenty of cards left to play, and before this Tyng season is over, expect
the unexpected.
