Saybrook Intramurals

Well, the Punisher's back and so is Saybrook College to make a run for the Tyng. Saybrugians, we are embarked on a war against many foes but only one foe that will stoop to any means and bend any and all rules to attain victory, a foe with no concept of sportsmanship, a foe dressed in red whose foul play is infamous throughout intramurals and needs no name.

TD's brief lead of 34.5 points has dwindled to single digits in the period of two days as Saybrugians have risen from their slumber to sweep 8 of 9 games this week, led by the women of Saybrook. Women's squash has recovered from an early two defeats, to take two of their last three games, led by Gabrielle McColgan '00, Kara Miller '00, Lindsey Ricker '00, Emily Schroeder '98, and Nori Yokozuka '99. Women's v-ball, led by warriors Tipayamontri '97, Soejima '99, Libaridian '99, Bloom '00, Hickey '00, and Wise '99, have won all their games that they have participated in, losing by only a
scant two points.

The story of the winter may be the Saybrugian women's upset over last year's Tyng Cup champion, JE. Junior Nia Edwards '98, and sophomores Maura Mulloy '99, Monique Vulin '99, and Elena Saxon-
house '99, and fab frosh Rachel Gruzen '00, Kelly Poggio '00, and Kristen Gengaro '00 fought out perhaps the most memorable SY victory in a very memorable year.

Bowling remains one of two undefeated sports. Bowlers Bohn '99, Yaecker '99, Irwin '99, Mucchetti '99, and Vulin '99 and captains Teddy Werner '98 and Martha Surridge '99 have spurred SY to a quick
4-0 record after two weeks of competition.

Tuesday night, Saybrook, without the services of star player Brian Bateman '97, still managed to deal TD a stunning defeat in water polo in overtime 7-6. All were stars in this game as outstanding defense was played by Sarah Pollock '97, Mo Vulin '99, Mulloy '99, Kaj Gartz '97 and goaltender Deirdre Eckian '97. Len "Marshall" Law '99 and Jon Igoe '97 played absolutely phenomenal games in scoring all seven goals, including rallying from a two goal deficit, ending with Igoe's game winning blast in O.T.

As if choking once a night wasn't enough, T.D. then proceeded to the ice to try to better their luck against SY. Facing a 2-1 deficit with a little more than six minutes left in the game, McGrath '99 burned T.D. goalie Kelvin Yu '97 twice in the course of two minutes with a goal and an assist to Bryce Bardezbanian '98, who punched in the game winner to propel SY to a 3-2 victory.

Saybrugians, this is our year, and this is our time. Let's prove a college can win with hard work and fair play and claim our heritage lost since 1936. Ashé!!!
