Davenport Intramurals

D-port IM players are now challenging the hostile windy spring. Strong sporty men and women are trekking out to the fields to play, as field hockey, baseball, and soccer report this week.

The field hockey team is led by the ever-saucy Sandy Enuha '99. The team's winning record can be attributed to complete teams (who can say "no" to that accent?), hard feisty play, and Sandy's extra sticks. The PC/DC team seems unstoppable with the freshman duo of Sue Barnes and Avery Patton. The team masacred CC/BK and then defeated the reigning champions, SM/TD. The team goal is the title...oh, yeah.

The coming of spring means the start of baseball, and the men of D-port have been representing us with lead bats and big guns. Brian Koplan '99 leads the team on the mound, and has pitched an impressive season thus far. Captain Loren Griffith '98 and Daniel Adamson '98 hold the defensive wall tight (Scouts, watch out for Daniel's behind-the-back toss). Offensive support comes from Adam Stein '99, Matt Obernaur '00, and Ken Osowski '98. Kenny O. has already slugged two homers this season, and his bat is just getting warm. Their record looks good, and future goals can be accomplished with this team...can of corn.

Despite co-ed soccer co-captain Mitch Bornsein's '97 incapacitating mononucleosis, he made sure that no balls made it into the goal. Backed up with a strong women's and men's team showing, it promised to be a good day. And it was. Reminiscent of the DC powerhouse teams of 1906-07, it seemed as though past greatness transcended time and handed it down to today's D'porters. The levelheaded team capatilized on strong defense provided by Dave Ratsen '97. Yet the ball got passed up the field by co-captain Tim O'Meara '00, Tony "the pro" Caserta '97, Trevor Hawkins '99, Trevor "Mackay" (who is this guy?) '00, and Karin "Awesome" Rinderknecht '00. The score was 3-2 in the end...oh, yeah.

A special shout out to Trevor Hawkins '99 and Red Ingles '98 for their help with this writing. Thanks.
