Trumbull Intramurals
Well, we may be in 12th place, but we don't mind because
we're the college with the smartest man at Yale! Not only is Rich Frankel '97 a
stud academically, but you should see him play center field for TC's co-ed
softball team! Not only is he a genius on the field, but he also is solid at
the plate. If you see "Happ" Davis '97 and wonder what's got him so
happ-happ-happy this week, it would have to be the softball team's colossal win
over Pierson. He is a rock in the outfield and hit the massive go-ahead homerun
in the game. The team is doing great this season (2-1), and what we lack in
numbers is made up for with raw talent. Take, for example, Greg Newmark "y
mark" '97, whose double drove in the winning run. The team gave Jen "No, I'm
not related to Brandon and Brenda" Walsh '99 the game ball for her awesome
play, including being three for three at the plate and turning a sweet double
play.
Tuesday was also a great day for the mighty Trumbull ultimate team. Thanks to
the recruitment skills of Genny "could you come to my German class and pretend
to be an Egyptian foreign exchange student so that class is more fun?" Taft '99
and captain Jen Ginn "rhymes with win" '99, there were a ton of people out to
play. Even though Saybrook forfeited, the team decided to play a pickup game
anyway. It was a great opportunity for the team to show off their stuff. Sunni
"are the skies when I'm playing ultimate" Pearson '97 has been racking up
points for the team. Even Vinh Tu '97 has made a couple of appearances on the
ultimate field. All I can say is that Vinh brings a great deal of flare to the
game. If it's style that you're after, look no further than "I just get a" Tad
"bit dirty" Kim '00, who spent time on the ground, diving again and again for
the frisbee.
An exciting sport for TC is field hockey. Dominated by the Class of 2000, and
particularly the women of the second floor of McClellan, this is a very solid
team that will go far in future years. They weren't able to show their stuff
this week because the team we were supposed to play is dead, but next week be
on the lookout for reports on how many goals captain Katie Cassidy '00 and Amy
Cerciello '00 score.
Trumbullians have been talking for a while now about reviving the spirit of
'62 (the last year that Trumbull won the Tyng cup). Fear not, Trumbullians, for
with players like Damon May "be I'll be nice and show you some mercy" '98
covering racquetball, we have great hope. Undefeated thus far, Damon is
the Trumbull racquetball team. Next year, the spirit of '62 will fill all
of us the way it's filled Damon this year, and we're going from 12th to first,
baby!
(Compiled by someone who regrets that she has but two knees to give for her
college.)
