Computers are an essential tool for managers. Beginning with
the Class of 1998, all entering SOM students will be required to
have a laptop computer and expected to be proficient in its
use. The School offers optional computer training for
incoming students prior to the start of the school year to ensure
basic proficiency. To simplify the sharing of data and
application files, and to facilitate network connectivity, SOM
has set a standard architecture for student computer hardware and
software, which is outlined below. Students can purchase
hardware, software, and data processing supplies at the Yale
University Microcomputer Support Center at educational prices.
The computer requirements for the 1997-98 academic year are:

Computer systems must be intended for sale and use in the United States and must use the American English code page and run on standard 120 volt current. Students using other operating systems or hardware not based on the Intel architecture (i.e., Windows 3.1 operating systems or Apple computers) will not receive support and will be at a decided disadvantage.
