Seth Zucker

Seth Zucker, JE '98, has had extensive experience using computers in art. "I've worked for two summers and a winter break at Tank, a small graphic design firm based in Boston," he said, "and a lot of my own work has been run through a computer at one stage or another." This experience has taught him to be wary of letting technology take control. "Every [computer graphics] program has a path of least resistance, but it rarely corresponds with the direction or manner of handwork."

Zucker feels that technology can contribute to art, but must not overwhelm it. "I think one of the biggest issues with digital work is maintaining a clear vision," he said. "It is easy to get seduced by the programs--it's important to stay conscious of the marks left by the production process."

Nonetheless, he plans on working in the digital media field after graduation. "...I'll probably spend some time working in a digital media field. ...The job market for digital art skills is so broad that it's hard to know where to attempt an entry. There are definitely a lot of opportunities."
