Ezra Stiles

We are all powerful. We are huge. Opponents quake at the sight of us. We are...the Stiles co-ed volleyball team. Yes, it's true. When Morse's team gathered on the field, they fled from our mighty numbers, afraid to face our super-human spikes. It was a grand, beautiful sight--reminding us of our Tyng Cup legacy, when flocks of Stilesians migrated to the IM fields every afternoon. It is true, we are back and ready for some action!

Leading this mighty team are our fearless captains, Patrick "Ka-" Bumatay '00 and "Give 'em" Hel "-on the court" en Chan '99, who are looking for that elusive shirt this season. Assisting them in this endeavor are Melissa "What sport am I playing now?" Huang '98, Matt "Captain Raquet" McClure '99, Tad "the Cheerleader/Dancer/I don't lick my ice cream funny" Yanagi '00, Ximena "Peruvian Party Girl" Vidal '00, Santi "I challenge you to a" Duewel '00, Amanda "Roo" Kaplan '00, Roopa "my last name says it all" Purushothaman '00, Mark "Boom-Boom" Hoffman '00, Betsy "I'm" Goldmen '01, Katrina "Shockwave" Shockley '01, Ben "I'm Dean" Trachentenberg '01, and Abbey "Darling" Deering '01. We are awesome. We are studly. We all played volleyball in high school, so you better watch out. HA HA HA!!!!

But don't worry, volleyball is not our only great sport. Football has slowly crept up to become one of the Stiles powerhouses in the early 1997-98 IM season. Teams live in fear of our defensive unit. If I were you, I would watch out for our stellar, runnin' interceptin' machine. We're passing, we're intercepting (yes, women, too!), and we're running our way to multiple touchdowns. Our intrepid and mighty men's and co-ed captains Si "da phreak" Chin '99, Duewel, and Bumatay are leading our teams to glory. With members including Huang, Deering, Janice "I can catch a football between my legs" Kim '99, "Mighty D" Debbie Higashi '00, Hara "Bring it on!" Sherman '00, "Hot Rod"-rigo Gutierrez '98, Yanagi, Jim Goloboy "he's cool" '00, Peter "secret weapon from Zimbabwe" Hall '00, Josh "Arm of Steel" Frank '01, Sung In "the endzone" '99, Arturo "don't get rough with my girls" Martinez '99, Dave Barcelo "so awesome" '00, "Rolls" Royce Chen '01, "Ruff and Tuff" Ian McLaren '01, and Mike Gerber "Baby" '01. Who would dare stand in our way?

We are not merely satisfied with utterly crushing some of our opponents. We want to win it all. Our captains are ready with squads of Stilesians. Alex Robbins '98 and Teri Niadna '98 are ready to lead the women's soccer team to victory. Peter Hadler '99 is heading our men to complete domination in men's soccer.

No hurdle is too high for track stars Ken Lee '00 and Kristen Michaelides '98. Jeff Wang '98 has already begun slicing and hooking us to the holes with a second place finish in golf. Tennis players Sara Schwebel '98 and Gutierrez are painting the lines with their shots, and Joe Harburger '99 and Huang are whacking their way to glory in ping-pong. The IM victory shirts are already painted on our chests, and we're looking forward to wearing the Tyng Cup as a hat in the spring--oh yes, and passing it around in the dining hall...full of "ginger ale." Two years is a long time. We want it back.
