Around the Ivies

No Cinderella

Penn men's basketball

The Quakers, a No. 13 seed in this year's NCAA Tournament, drew a tough first-round matchup against the No. 4-seeded University of Illinois. After falling behind early, Penn managed to close the gap to one early in the second half before finally succumbing 68-58. Illinois beat Penn up and down the court all game long, and Ivy League Player of the Year Michael Jordan '00, who got in early foul trouble, was a non-factor. Ugonna Unyekwe '03 led Penn with 17 points.

Early N.I.T. exit

Princeton men's basketball

Princeton did not play like Prin-ceton all season long, and it showed in the first round of the N.I.T. The Tigers looked lackluster from the get-go against Penn State. Princeton trailed 31-15 at halftime and never got back into the game, eventually losing 55-41. Chris Young '02 led the Tigers with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
