Chen--With the spectacular finish I had last season, I think
both the AP writers and the nation's coaches would have voted me number one. To
the two rookies: it's going to be a long, hard season. Let's start out the year
with some Yale action. Give me both basketball teams over Brown for $750 each.
In hockey action, for $1,000, the men stay atop the ECACs with a win over
UMass-Lowell. In the NBA, two greats return to where it all started. Bird
brings his Pacers to Boston while Riley returns to L.A. Give me both greats to
come away with wins on the road for $800 each. Time to do what Krause failed to
last semester: Green Bay's not the only great that's going to repeat.
Starting Balance: $5,000.
Lin--Here goes--playing with the boys. Since the Bulls rarely let me down, $600 for each of three wins, starting with tonight's visit to Milwaukee, then hosting the Rockets and the Hornets at United. Then $500 on two Celtics game at Fleet: Bird gets cooked in his visit home on Sunday and the Celts do it again to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In hopes of the Blackhawks improving to .500, $250 on their matchups with the Isles and the Leafs. Another $300 on the Bruins to pull out another amazing win over the Canadiens. On the home front, $100 for both fencing squads to beat Rutgers, and $100 for gymnastics to put away Brown. Starting Balance: $5,000.
Smith--It's getting to be that time of year again, that time when I feel the need toassert myself to feel better about my broken New Year's resolutions. My Illinois loyalty leads me to the Bulls all the way over the Bucks, and by at
least seven for $750. Another $550 on Orlando over Phoenix, and I'm betting the
family dog that it doesn't get postponed due to snow. I don't see any way in
which the North Americans can lose the All-Star Game with such incredible
Chicago players as Amonte and Chelios. $600 on a victory, and $200 on an Amonte
goal. At Yale, $500 each on men's and women's hoops showing Brown a good time.
Call me crazy, or call me on Monday. Starting Balance: $5,000.
