Fencing: Still on a roll

Over the past week, the men's and women's fencing squads bolstered their already impressive records by dismantling M.I.T. and Brandeis in preparation for next weekend's H-Y-P tournament at Princeton.

On Tues., Feb. 10, the team traveled to Waltham, Mass. to take on Brandeis. The Bulldogs emerged victorious, with a 17-10 overall victory for the men (8-1, 2-1 Ivy) and 24-8 win for the women (9-0, 3-0 Ivy).

Even with the victories, men's captain Taka Sudo, PC '98, saw room for improvement. "We won," he said, "but they weren't quality wins. We should have done better, and dominated the weaker teams."

This weekend takes many of the younger fencers away from Yale to Oakland, Calif. for the Junior Olympics. Only fencers under 20 years of age are eligible to compete in this event. Yale fencers have had much success at the Junior Olympics in recent years, including Ayo Griffin's, SM '00, first-place performance in last year's foil competition.
