There's no place like home
By Albert Chen
The players will be the first to tell you: part of the
hockey team's success comes from the flood of spectators that have filled
The Whale for home games this season. With their two weekend wins, a 5-3
victory over Harvard and a 3-1 win over Brown, the men improved to 19-4 (14-2
ECAC) and solidified their place atop the ECAC standings.

The Sat., Feb. 14 contest against Harvard was a school record sixth straight sellout at Ingalls Rink. "Anybody that plays sports knows the effect of big crowds," Jeff Hamilton, SM '00, said. "It's all very uplifting." Hamilton had three goals during the weekend. Tickets for Eli contests have been hard to come by. All reserved seating tickets for the Sat., Feb. 28 contest against Vermont are already sold out. "The phones are ringing off the hook," Ticket Manager Nancy Fryer said. "I've never seen anything like this in my seven years. It's all very exciting."
All of the Bulldogs' losses have come on the road. "Getting started has been a problem on the road," Hamilton said. "At home, we get a huge boost from the crowd, and are ready to go." With the win over Harvard, the Bulldogs clinched home ice advantage in the first round of the ECAC tournament, which begins on Fri., Mar. 13. "At 6 p.m., there was already a mob of people in the stands,"Hamilton said of the match against the Crimson. "That's something you just didn't see last season."
