Finishing on a disappointing note

By Dan Brodhead

Despite the men's squash team's season-long success, the squad could not pull out victories in either of its last two matches. On Sat., Feb. 7, the Bulldogs lost a much-anticipated match to Princeton. Coach Dave Talbott called Yale's 8-1 loss to the favored Tigers "a definite disappointment." Kris Weiner, PC '00, was the only victorious Bulldog.

After the Princeton loss, Yale's challenging schedule did not relent as the squad faced a heavily-favored Harvard team on Sat., Feb. 14. Despite an impressive showing featuring victories by captain Devraj Roy, TC '98, Deji Olukotun, CC '00, and Josh Barenbaum, CC '01, Yale lost 6-3. Now one trial remains. At this weekend's ISA Team Tournament, Amherst will come prepared to avenge its earlier loss to Yale. "It will be a challenge," Talbott said. "But we're ready."

Like the men's team, the women's squash team ended an otherwise successful season on a down note. At last weekend's Howe Cup, the nation's premier year-end tournament, Yale lost 5-4 to both Dartmouth and Trinity. On Wed., Feb. 18, the women dropped a disappointing 7-2 decision to Harvard. Three of the losses were five-game battles.
