Grubbs reaches milestone, Perkins out

By Albert Chen

Katy Grubbs, SM '99, became the 12th Bulldog to reach the 1,000 point milestone, and she did it with style. Grubbs poured in 27 points in a 66-43 victory over Pennsylvania. The 27 points tied a career high. "After I was within a point [of the mark]," Grubbs said, "I started to get nervous." Grubbs missed her next shot badly, but then connected on a turnaround jumper to reach the mark. "I didn't know about [the record] until that morning," Grubbs said. "But it was still very exciting."

The women (11-11, 5-5 Ivy) fell to Princeton 60-42 the following day. The win against Pennsylvania proved to be costly, as the Bulldogs lost starting point guard Sarah Perkins, MC '01, to a torn ACL. Perkins is out for the year. "It's a huge loss," Grubbs said. "She's been a leader all season."

The loss comes at a crucial junction of the season, as the Bulldogs head into a difficult final stretch. The women face Cornell on Fri., Feb. 20 and Columbia on Sat., Feb. 21. They end the season with home games against Dartmouth and Harvard.

"I hope we can overcome [the loss of Perkins]. We have to bounce back from the Princeton loss, too," Grubbs said.
