Men's swimming: In search of the bronze

As men's swimming prepares for the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League (EISL) Championships on Thurs., Mar. 5, the prospects for a strong showing are very good. The team improved its record to 10-3 with a decisive 141.5-102.5 victory over Brown on Sun., Feb. 15. Stewart Hitchner, PC '01, led the Bulldogs to victory, capturing both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyles.

At the upcoming EISL Championships, to be held in West Point, NY, Jeremy Fain, DC '99, expects the squad to improve on last year's performance. "We have the best chance in years to finish third--we've got a legitimate shot." This season, the league has been dominated by Harvard and Princeton. The Bulldogs look to overthrow Navy from its bronze platform for third place. Last year, the Blue were edged out by Navy and finished fourth.

The recent successes of the freshman class, led by George Gleason, TC '01, and the continuing success of the sophomores, headed by Alex Hoffman, BK '00, has the Elis feeling optimistic as they look to the future. This weekend's competition is only the beginning.
