Men's ice hockey: Takes a lickin', keeps on tickin'
The men's hockey team opened their Fri., Feb. 20 game
against Clarkson in typical fashion. With two goals from Matt Cumming, JE '98,
the Bulldogs assumed an early lead as they have done all year long.
Uncharacteristically, Yale was unable to hold onto their lead as the Golden
Knights stormed back, scoring five unanswered goals. Clarkson never looked
back, finishing the game with a 6-3 victory, thus ending Yale's seven-game
winning streak.
Fortunately, the team adjusted well to playing on the road when they travelled
to St. Lawrence on Sat., Feb. 21. Still smarting from their poor showing the
night before, the Bulldogs trounced the 11th place St. Lawrence squad and
improved their record to a school record-tying 15-3 in the ECAC. This weekend,
the Elis play their last regular season games at the Whale, as they host
Dartmouth and Vermont.
This year, the Bulldogs are unbeaten at Ingalls Rink, and tickets are among
the hardest finds in the ECAC. Suffering a loss at Dartmouth earlier in the
season, the Elis are looking to secure their first NCAA Tournament berth in
over 10 years with a pair of wins at home.
