Branford

Well, Spring Break has come and gone, Mike's got some hair back on his melon, and the Branford IM effort continues to pick up steam. As of the end of the winter season, we already have 71 more points than we had all of last year, thanks in large part to the awesome participation which led us to no winter forfeits. Unfortunately, our good fortune didn't last long into the spring, as Jesse "The Hit Doggy Dogg" Grauman '00, Evan "The Bigger Hurt" Farber '99, and two of Welch's finest, Jocelyn Simonson '01 and Shannon Dunlap '01, were the only BFA'ites brave enough to show up for our first softball game and our first forfeit of the season. Maybe everyone else in Branford was too busy trying to decide who to vote for in the God Quad elections? Nah.

Perhaps they were preparing for soccer. A valiant effort was turned in by seniors Kenolisa Onweume, Ryan E. Smith, Ann Park, and Danny Goldman, juniors Chris Burke, Meredith Trowbridge, Patrick Bareiss, Mihira Jayasekera, Thomas
Palkot, Mariano Banos, and Vladimir Mukhin, sophomore Dalia Hochman, and freshmen Randy Wolfe, Robert Hunt, and Meredith Bryarly.

Unfortunately, two Calhoun goals sandwiched around 50 minutes of scoreless standoff found Branford on the wrong end of a 2-0 shutout. However, with outstanding participation and seemingly unlimited potential, keep an eye out for good things to come from our soccer squad.

Volleyball is off to a typically strong start. Led by senior co-captains Melissa Pena and Niko Smrekar, BFA volleyball looks to avenge two second-place finishes this year and finally beat the hooligans who stole our flag. The shirts--and the rest of the spring--are ours for the taking. Like Marvin Gaye said,"Let's get it on."
