Saybrook

A new season has begun after a truly record-breaking winter kill, and Saybrook has continued to brandish its can of whoop-ass. Many opponents and foes may ask the secret of Saybrook's Intramural success, and the answer is very simple: "Sacrifice."

The first day of the spring was a quintessential example of just that. Special thanks go out to Emily Schroeder '98, Emily Falk '01, John Whipple '99, Dan Fingerman '00, and especially Natasha Bloom '00, who provided vital transportation and phenomenal skills. All five played two IMs to help the cause as Saybrook rolled to victory in three events. Bloom and Whipple triumphed in a three-on-four volleyball match. The fabulous frosh showed their mettle in coed softball as Dave "The New Leadoff" Plattner, Emily "I wish it was fast pitch" Falk, Mike "The Long Ball" Reeves, with other junior softball veterans Ben "Gold Glove" McGrath, and Elena "Basket Catch" Saxonhouse and a crew of others contributing to the victory.

In soccer, the Saybrugians overcame the formidable Sillimanders in a tightly-fought 2-1 victory as more than 20 Saybrugians showed, including nine women. Sophomore Blair Lacy and freshwomen Anna Nordberg, Emily Levine, Debbie Liptzin, Azure Wells, and Catie McGuinn were especially impressive in a defense which foiled Silliman attempt after attempt.

Sections, midterms, work, and other commitments fail to stand in the way of our warriors. Berkeleyites, I think that might it be wise to reserve your feeble IM protests, and talk about choking for yourselves, especially when 'Gado and Calhoun come to get that second place spot in the next two weeks. Saybrugians, the last time we won the Tyng was 1963. Thirty-five years is a long time. We want it back.

(Compiled by a huge fan of Stiles' and JE's snazzy new threads.)
