No doubt about it: Women's swimming
By Albert Chen
Brown was the best team during the regular season, and
was tops again when it really mattered. For the first time ever, the Ivy crown
was granted to the winner of the Ivy League Championships, which were held
between Fri., Feb. 27 and Sun., Mar. 1, instead of the team with the best
season record. The Bears left no doubt they were the top squad in 1997-98;
during the regular season, they amassed a 7-0 mark, and took the crown during
the weekend competition by scorching the rest of the field. Brown placed 121
points ahead of runner-up Harvard. The new format gave schools hope going into
the championship. After the first day of competition, Princeton led Brown by a
point. In the second day, the Bears jumped out to a 100-point lead and never
looked back.
