Gymnastics: Almost like old times

At the Ivy League Championship on Sun., Mar. 1, the Yale gymnastics team placed second with a score of 183.100. The Pennsylvania Quakers took home this year's crown with a score of 187.350. Brown, the meet host, scored 182.175, placing third, while Cornell came in fourth with a score of 182.100.

Although Bulldog gymnasts won back-to-back Ivy Titles in 1995 and 1996, they suffered severe injuries in 1997 and had to settle for fourth. As in last year's Ivy Classic, Stacey Johnson, TC '99, was the Elis' top all-around performer, finishing sixth with a 36.500. Johnson finished third in the floor exercise, with a 9.650, tying her own career high in the event. "I was pretty happy with our performance on Sunday, though I was disappointed that I fell on beam and that we ended up losing to Penn," Johnson said. At last year's Ivies, she placed second in the balance beam and fourth all-around,
scoring 36.90.
