Branford

Okay, we are now three full weeks into the spring season, and the chaff is beginning to separate from the wheat in Branford IMs. Unfortunately, the chaff consists of this: women's field hockey went the way of the dodo bird, no thanks to our pals in JE who failed to send a single woman out to play. Next, baseball was privileged to have Dave Moss '01 and Manny Caixeiro '00 come play Tuesday--except that they were the only ones to show up. Yuck-o.

But it wouldn't be in the spirit of mighty BFA intramurals to focus on the chaff and leave out the wheat. So far, two Branford squads remain undefeated and primed for some post-season play. Given the success of Branford volleyball over the past few seasons, it comes as no surprise that a powerful senior-junior squad has been dominant, posting a 2-0 record.

Yet, the more impressive story so far has been the inspired play of the ultimate Frisbee team. The ghosts of last fall's Cinderella-esque men's football team smiled down upon Dan Brodhead '01, Rebecca Goodman '00, Mike Levinson '00, Katie Armstrong '99, Tom Palkot '99, and Chris Burke '99, as they put down a feisty Stiles team with a solid 15-12 victory to bring their record to 2-0 as well.

Props also go out to Doug Rubinson '98, who, in his second ever intramural game, blasted a towering opposite-field home run in a tough 10-6 softball loss to Saybrook. While it may be too late for us to win the Tyng, Doug's inspiring tale shows us all that it's never too late to get involved in IMs. Have fun in the sun, shirk the work, and BFA all the way, baby.
