Smack Zone
Chen--It's all or nothing this week. No more wussy $500 bets.
Smith, that bastard, is going down hard. The Orioles continue their rampage.
Tiger takes Augusta again ($2,500). The Nets wrap up their playoff bid with a
win over the Bucks ($2,500). Tonight, it's all about sweet redemption: Maddux
beats Schilling ($1,000). Randy is back to old form, fanning at least 10 and
picks up the win ($2,000 each). But Muss is the league's best hurler, and he'll
shut down the Tigers ($2,000). On the home front, women's lax takes out
Columbia ($2,000) and men's tennis over Cornell ($1,500). Last Week:
+$2,000. Current Balance: $8,200.
Lin--I suggested betting on the TD senior room
draw--it was just like a fantasy baseball league or tournament bracket--and my
roommates think I have a gambling problem. So let's start with the Orioles
sweeping Detroit again ($500), and maybe the Cubs redeeming themselves at Shea
sometime this week ($1,500). Look for the Celtics to finally beat the
Pacers ($750) and then for the Pacers to fall to 'Da Bulls ($800). Men's lax
will regroup at Towson State ($800) and the women will crush Columbia ($1,000).
Finally, $1,000 on each women's tennis win against Syracuse and Cornell.
Last Week: +$1,250. Current Balance: $13,160.
Smith--I considered taking this week off just because, well, there's really no
competition in Smack anymore. I have nothing better to do than make money
though, so I guess I'll invite you to watch the Cubbies take a minimum of two
of three games against Montreal ($2,000). Tiger takes the Masters again, too
($1,250). The Bulls will dissect Orlando and Indiana, toying with them en route
to victory ($800 each). At Yale, the baseball team will show Cornell how to
properly use their bats and balls ($750), and women's tennis will embarrass
Syracuse ($1,000). Last Week: +$5,250. Current Balance: $17,000.
Guest, David Altschuler--So Herald News returns to Smack, and Met Baseball is in full effect. Look for the anti-Irabu, Matsato Yoshii, to lead the Men in Black over the the NLed Brew Crew for $1,000. Petitte and the Bronx Bummers fall to Oakland, eliciting a ³No!² from Nola ($1,000). Also look for KC to remind Doug Drabek that he hasn¹t had a good year since ¹93 as the ¹Birds fall to the Royals ($1,000). And pencil McGwire in for a multiple HR game at least once next week ($500). On the home front, the Bulldogs will take it to the eating clubbers from Jersey on the diamond for another grand. Last week: +$190. Current Balance: $8,145.
David Altschuler, SM ¹00, is a news editor for The Yale Herald.
