Women's lacrosse: A few more Ivy League hurdles
The women's lacrosse team played Princeton and Columbia
as it marches toward the Ivy League title and the NCAA tournament. The squad is
currently ranked 13th in the nation, one place shy of receiving an NCAA bid.
All team members saw playing time in last week's 17-8 defeat of Boston
College. Carrying momentum from this victory into the first half of the
Princeton game on Sat., Apr. 11, Yale jumped out to a 4-1 lead. This effort
continued into the second half as Heather Bentley, SY '00, scored five goals
and goalie Alison Cole, ES '99, had 20 saves. Unfortunately, Yale was unable to
hold off the fourth-ranked Tigers' surge and lost 14-10.
The team regrouped on Wed., Apr. 15 with a 20-8 crushing of the Columbia
Lions. The women are now preparing for contests against non-league Vanderbilt
and New Hampshire as well as for two more Ivy League games. The Blue still has
a slim chance to win the Ivy title, if it beats Brown and Cornell while
Princeton and Dartmouth both lose their final two league games. With these
prospects, the team looks forward to the post-season. "This weekend and the
next week is really important. It's really exciting because we definitely have
a really good shot at NCAAs," Alyssa Chen, TD '99, said.
