Smack Zone
Albert Chen: Oh, sooo sorry, Smith. I'd like honey mustard with those
McNuggets. Sharon: don't start writing happy stickies just yet. It's crunch
time, and I've saved my best for last. Women's lacrosse is going to the Big
Dance: an NCAA bid with three wins to finish the season ($1,500 each). In the
NBA, first round sweeps by the future Eastern and Western Conference champs,
the Bulls and the Lakers ($2,000 each). Oh what the hell, MLB final four will
be O's, Yanks, Braves, Cards ($5,000), Venus is number one by August ($3,000),
and Godzilla is the flop of the summer ($2,000). It's been fun. Last
Week: +$6,800. Current Balance: $19,500.
Sharon Lin: Aw, yeah!! First to break 20 grand. Lauren, I smell
Victory! (Sorry, Soraya, it was too good to avoid.) Let's go with women's lax
to beat Cornell and Syracuse ($2,000 each), softball to rebound against Boston
College ($1,000 each), tennis to take it to the Big Green ($2,000 each), and
men's track to win the Yale Invitational ($750). In the big leagues, the red
hot Sox go on the road to take two of three from the Tribe ($2,000) and the
Orioles to take four of five from the visiting Californians ($3,750). Last
Week: +$6,800. Current Balance: $21,610.
Peter Smith: Nice guys finish last. Sorry, but I'm not a nice guy.
Unlike Chen, I won't be taking out any loans. It's time for the
blitzkreig approach. I'll start with a cool $5,000 on the Cubbies taking
two of three in Los Angeles. The Knicks are going to die at the hands of the
Heat just as they did at the hands of the Bulls last weekend--I'll put $3,500
on that one. Back at Yale, women's lacrosse rolls over Syracuse for $4,000,
men's tennis over Dartmouth for $3,500, women's tennis over Harvard for $4,000,
and softball over Princeton in both games, for $2,000. Befriend me now.
Last Week: -$2,250. Current Balance: $14,750.
Chris Burke: So, here I am. Just one year ago, I shared this space
with aek9 and laurena, and now it's come full circle. A new crop of sports
editors, the same old-fashioned ass-whoopin' at the hands of Burke 3:16. Look
for the Devils to walk away with the Cup ($1,995), the Lakers to take the NBA
crown ($1,988), and Pierson IM softball to walk away with its second crown in
three years ($1,996)--hey, who's gonna check this anyway? And, for Spring Fling
weekend, here are a few guarantees: there will be a c-monkey sighting in
Pierson courtyard ($1,000), Pierson (backed by tapmaster Mike Diluna, PC '98)
shocks the world at Tang ($1), and $500 says yours truly will not be at
the JE Spider Ball (Thanks, Soraya). Last week: +$3,160. Current Balance:
$8,805.
Chris Burke, PC '99, is the (old) editor-in-chief of The Yale
Herald.
