On the prowl

By Sharon Lin

On windy Lake Carnegie, coach Lori Dauphiny's crews fell to Brown on Sat., Mar. 28. Brown won the varsity race with a time of 6:16.3 to Princeton's 6.23.0. The win was a good start on the Bears' road to recovering the Eastern Sprints title, since the Tigers, 1997 Eastern Sprints champions, beat Brown twice last year in close races. Princeton took second place at the first NCAA championships, losing by five seconds to the University of Washington Huskies. Princeton's women's lightweight team also debuted last weekend, with a loss in the varsity eights race to an experienced Villanova boat (7:11.4 to 7:16.4) and a win in the novice lightweight eight (7:50.4 to 8:30.0).
