Smack Zone
Chen--This is pretty embarrasing. Very embarrasing, actually.
Lin's been the one adding up the cash, so I'll blame it on her and El
Niño. I'll blame it on the Wizards, who will lose to Toronto tonight
($500), even though they are playing for the right to get annihilated by the
Bulls. Big weekend for women's lacrosse: they'll take down Harvard for $2,000.
Two words: Baseball '98. Doug Drabek, probably the youngest on the Orioles
roster, will lead the O's to a victory tonight ($1,000), while Brady goes deep
($500). Small moves, Chen. Small moves. Last Week: -$4,000. Current Balance:
$6,200.
Lin--I think I could get used to being on top! As spring sports get into
full swing--look for Yale baseball to continue its win streak at Columbia and
Penn ($800 each), women's lax to beat visiting Harvard ($500), and softball to
pick up a home win against Fairfield. In the big leagues, the Orioles avenge
Tuesday's opening loss in Kansas City ($1,500), $550 for each Red Sox win at
Anaheim next week, and--sorry Heralders--the Mets will lose at least two
games when they visit Wrigley Field ($700). No basketball and hockey bets--I
hope the weather cooperates.Last Week: +$1,550. Current Balance: $11,910.
Smith--Ha! Look at Chen! That's pretty hilarious. I didn't bet very much last week, so I'm not surprised I only gained another Ulysses S. Grant. I invite you all to watch my hostile takeover of Smack, starting with $2,000 on the Cubs taking their home opener against Montreal. Look for the Bulls to wound Houston severely on my birthday, this Sun., Apr. 5 ($1,500). For Yale, I'm looking to Scott Carlton, JE '01, to carry men's tennis over Navy ($1,750) and Princeton ($1,500). Men's lax will earn a win over Rutgers ($750), and women's lax will destroy the Crimson ($750). Last Week: +$50. Current Balance: $11,750.
Guest, Brian Levinson--Three words: Met Baseball '98. One extra word: Believe. The Amazin's are taking on the Bucs in a four-game set at Shea, and it's Kahn's Magnetic Schedule Weekend--should be a party ($600 on each game). $800 on Butch Huskey going deep at least once and $500 on Brian McRae not completely sucking (at least a .280 BA for the weekend). Rick Reed lets in two runs or less in his Friday start for $300, and $10 on John Franco walking the leadoff batter in every inning he pitches. Believe, kids, believe. Last week: -$3,495. Current Balance: $7,955.
