Smack Zone
Bialik
So the Yanks have successfully bought themselves a
championship--damned if I'm going to let them buy one for NB. No Yankee bets
for you! Oh, and DG, I pity you, really I do. Enough Smack, on to the bets: the
Vikings will win again ($2,000) as the Lions disappoint after their big upset.
On the college gridiron, the Hokies will spank DG's beloved UAB ($1,000) and
Yale will crush the Lions ($2,500). Rugby will thrash Southern for the league
title ($1,000), and men's and women's soccer will end their Ivy losing streaks
by bouncing Columbia ($1,500 each). Last Week: -$1,000. Current
Balance: $12,800.50.

After such a triumphant week, I am close to speechless.
So I'll write instead. Just as the Yanks ran away with the playoffs, it looks
as if I am running away with Smack Zone--but now I can't bet on them. I guess
I'll have to resort to football. John Elway continues to refuse
retirement--he'll lead the Broncos to 7-0 against the Jags on Sunday; the
J-E-T-S jets jets jets will vault to a stunning one game over .500; and the
Pats will beat Miami ($500 each). Our Elis wil beat the Lions in football
($500), and volleyball will make its NCAA push by beating Brown ($1,000).
Last Week: +$5,000. Current Balance: $20,760.

Well tie me up and Smack me sideways--that team always
seems to find a way to win. Those damn Crimson Tiders. Alabama is out of
control, and will continue their current streak by beating the spread against
Tennessee ($1,000). And watch as our football team spanks the Lions ($2,000),
powered by the leg of Murawczyk, who will put at least four balls through the
uprights ($2,000). Field hockey will beat Duke ($100) and William and Mary
($2,100), as Walton and Hobbs team up for at least two assists and two goals
($1,000). Yanks win. Whoopee. Last Week: -$2,200. Current
Balance: $8,000.

Okay...death to the Yankees! Death to Baseball! On to
legitimate sports! In the NFL, K.C. takes another spanking at the hands
of the Steelers ($500), Detroit drops Minnesota from the unbeaten list ($500),
and the Raiders go back to old form by losing to the Cincinnati Bengals ($500).
In hockey, the Washington Capitals continue their road back to the Stanley Cup
by hammering the Sabres and the Panthers ($700 apiece). Columbia's football
team becomes one big Handsome Dan chew-toy as the football team beats them by
at least 10 points ($500) and outgains them on the ground by 100 yards ($750),
while women's soccer makes the Columbia girls scream for mercy ($1,000).
Last Week: -$1,500. Current Balance: $11,701.
