Well, so much for integrity. It's hard to compete with someone who wagers on Yale's unstoppable volleyball team to place in the top three--at a four-team tournament. Here's the new CB: Give me $1,000 on my beloved Orangemen to upset mighty Cincinnati by more than 20 points. Add $1,000 each for Florida and Arizona to prevail in two tough top 12 matchups. Not to be outdone, Yale will crucify Holy Cross for $1,000 (and finally win me some money!). Finally, look for volleyball to win its first two Ivy matchups ($1,000 each). Oh, and $.50 on NB betting on the Yanks. Again. Last Week: +$300. Current Balance: $11,800.

Last week, if I do say so myself, was a glorious one for me. In fact it was flawless, despite a really stupid-looking picture in the YDN. I vaulted myself into the upper echelon of Smack, and C.B., you'd better welcome me, 'cause I'm here to stay. Speaking of perfection, first things first--give me the Yanks in no more than four ($3,000), and for $500 each, I'll take the Sox, 'Stros, and Braves as division series winners. By the way, how good is Shane Spencer? As for the erstwhile Elis, give me field hockey over the Tigers for $500. I'll put volleyball in the top three at the Hartford Invitational ($500), and women's golf will win at Mt. Holyoke ($500). Last Week: +$5,000.50. Current Balance: $9,260.

Happy Parents' Weekend to everyone, especially CB's mom. May Yale have mercy on Holy Cross, beating, but not humiliating, the Crusaders ($1,000). Speaking of "sad little tools," my heart goes out to the Yanks and anyone who would ever cheer for them. Nevertheless, I don't see them losing until the Series ($2,000). Oh yeah, they'll be playing the Braves ($1,000). I'll discuss how the South will take its revenge for the War of Northern Aggression at a later date. Last week: +$2,950. Current Balance: $8,200.

Guests Tom Arnold and Christos Cabolis

CC: Since there aren't any Mighty Athenians on any American field of play this weekend, what's a poor little Greek boy to do?

TA: Why, root against one's enemies, of course! (Didn't you ever read the Iliad?) So, for $1,000, Cal trips up the USC Trojans, and, for another $1,000, Indiana's Hoosiers defeat the Michigan State Spartans.

CC: But just a second. For an additional $1,000, back home in Athens (Athens, Ga. that is), the Lewis-less Tennessee Volunteers are falling Between the Hedges to the Georgia Bulldogs.

TA: We'd wager a loose $100 on Temple's Owls (sacred bird of Athena), but that's going a bit too far... Last week: +$1,500. Current Balance: $14,201.

Tom Arnold is an assistant professor of history. Christos Cabolis is a lecturer in economics and the dean of Jonathan Edwards College.
