Branford
After starting the IM year in resplendent fashion,
Branford has unfortunately seen its good fortune dwindle considerably. The
fires of competition which appeared to burn bright within all of BFA back in
September were nowhere to be found come midterms and the changing of the
leaves.
If someone had collected a dime from each Branfordian who came out to play
after Parents' Weekend, that person would still be a few bills short of being
able to buy a box of Band-Aids to stop the blood which gushed forth as the
losses continued to mount.
But all hope is not lost for the year; we have much to look forward to this
winter. Eager to pick up where they left off last winter, inner-tubers Mike
Smith '99, Rebecca Goodman '00, and Meredith Trowbridge '99 hope to put the big
hurt on opponents like no other. Women's basketball also welcomes back to
competition its senior twin towers, who (assuming they don't go pro) are now
volleyball and injury-free, ready to roll over all the little girls who get in
their way.
Across the hall in room H, men's and women's volleyball, led by Loren Stewart
'99, Patrick Bareiss '99, Martha Bagnall '00, and Erin McGrath '01, both return
seasoned squads and are excited not to be labeled like the New England
Patriots: "The best team in the division, talent-wise, but they just can't win
the big game."
And finally, up Prospect Street, hockey looks to a former street hockey grand
champion, the pride of Anchorage, Alaska, and a man who boldly refers to
himself as "The Solution" to turn last season's 1-10 mark upside down. Don't
write Branford off yet, folks--like Johnny Carson used to say, "There's more to
come."
