Intramurals
While much of the Yale student body will fill up Harvard
Stadium on Sat., Nov. 21, a few students will be focused on other sporting
events. Saturday will showcase matchups between Yale's best intramural soccer
and volleyball teams and the opposing Cantab champions.
Throughout the season, Calhoun proved its dominance at volleyball, helping to
raise Calhoun to third in the Tyng Cup standings. The greatest challenge is
still ahead, though, as the volleyball team prepares to meet Harvard.
The champion Trumbull soccer team will also look to topple Harvard's champs.
Trumbull won the soccer championship last year, but was denied a match when
their Crimson counterparts did not make the trip to New Haven. "We haven't
played together as a team in a couple of weeks," Phil Gorman, TC '01, said.
"We're pretty good, though."
Yale intramural teams may face an upward climb when they reach Cambridge this
weekend. Historically, the host university claims most of the intramural
face-off championships. Former competitors looked to humor as a secret
weapon."We made fun of them," Alex McCain, CC '00, who faced Harvard last year
as a member of the Calhoun coed football team, said. "They took everything a
little too seriously."
For some, The Game will take second stage to the IM matchups. Others look
forward to a nice relaxing afternoon in Harvard Stadium after trouncing the
Cantabs in their IM matches. "I'll be sitting in the stadium cheering for our
football team as well," McCain added.
