Saybrook

With a tear in my eye, I watch intramural season come to an end. In the beginning of the year, we found that we would have stiff competition in defending our Tyng as heartbreaking losses in football and tennis, and the early demise of our women's soccer team, put us far behind the crew from Temple Street. The winds of change started to blow through the IM world on Parents' Weekend, however, when Chris Conway '99 put three goals past Pierson's soccer goalie to capture a 4-3 victory. Coed volleyball, led by Natasha Bloom '00, Adrian Delmont '99, Carla Dane '99, Matt Matros '99, and Dan Fingerman '00 fought valiantly five-on-six to reach the championships only to fall to The Ras '99 and his 'Houn crew.

The Nurr '99 and Mr. Martin '99 led a determined Saybrook cross country team to a first-place finish for the third consecutive year with troopers Jon Criss '01, Robert Stockman '02, and Sam Frank '02 garnering five of the top 12 places.

Karna Basu's '00 table tennis team gained sweet redemption after two years of frustration with a dominating 11-0 season. John Whipple '99, Anna Nordberg '01, Kevin Kwong '99, Andy Chan '01, Mara Segal '02, and Natasha Bloom '00 all finished undefeated, and Shabnam Faruki '00 proved to be truly clutch with two integral 2-1 victories over Morse and Berkeley.

We ended our tennis season with a decisive victory despite three reschedules with TD where we lost only three games to win four matches. Thanks to sophomore women Rachel, Alice, Debbie, Katie, and Maria for carrying our tennis team this fall.

Saybrugians, we finished with a surge, winning our last nine games, and this is not likely to change in the winter. The din of "we're so far ahead" parties from TD has disappeared as its lead has shrunk to a mere trifle. We're defending champs in winter, as lomg we look to take the shirts in squash, basketball, volleyball, and swimming, where we were edged out last year.

Let's definitely continue the winning after turkey break and start the new year on top where we belong. It's a lead we won't ever relinquish.
