Passing the torch
Ivy League women's athletics
The Halloween matchup between the women's soccer teams
of Harvard and Dartmouth was akin to the meeting of the unstoppable force and
the immovable object. Harvard, ranked No. 22 in the nation, had captured
the last three Ivy League titles. Dartmouth, ranked No. 7 nationally, had lost
only one game all year. Neither team had lost a league game this season. The
Big Green rushed out to an early 2-0 lead, but Harvard netted a goal to keep
things close. The game was up for grabs until the final minute, when Dartmouth
goalkeeper Kristen Luckenbill '00 stopped a shot from six yards out. With the
win, Dartmouth secured an NCAA tournament bid.
