Okay. Bad news: everyone knows that JE truly lived up to
our motto last year by not only sucking, but by finishing dead last. (We
couldn't even beat Trumbull, for crying out loud.) Good news: because of our
low participation rate last year, most of JE isn't even aware that we were so
inept. With this year's incoming class eager to participate (and look good
doing it), a retooled JE squad promises less suck and more blow(ing away the
competition) than last year.
That upward trend began at last weekend's Borsodi Golf Invitational. Andrew
Goodwillie '02 joined by Hieu Ngo '00, Will McGrath '00, and Leslie Kane '01 on
the A team tied for fourth overall with a 2-over par 36. The B team, led by
Dave Fine '00 and joined by captain Seung Lee '00, Laurel Abbott '99, and Yong
Li '00 held their own by shooting a 9-over par 43. JE looks equally strong in
other sports. Men's soccer features the star trio of Kevin Gobeske '99, Jeremy
Royal '00, and Pietro Canetta '01. The women's team, captained by Jen Rodriguez
'01, promises a run for the shirts. The touch football teams look stronger than
ever (this feat is not so impressive following last season's debacle). Led by
Greg Goodman '00 and Rodriguez, these teams could be tough to beat.
Our ping-pong team remains nearly unchanged from last year. JE's Indian
sensation Vivek Sugavanam '00 continues to live by the motto, "Speak softly but
carry a big paddle." Will McGrath '00 leads two JE sports into the fall,
captaining both tennis and volleyball. Watch out ladies, this Puerto Rican
heartthrob plays to kill. So this year, watch out Trumbull, we plan to take
the bull by the horns, and use them to crack open a can of whoop-a** on the
rest of the intramural field. JE plans to bite and scratch its way to the top
of the Tyng standings with a ferocity that would make even Marv Albert blush.
Yeeeessss!!!
