Branford

Some of the greatest victories in the history of human civilization have come as the weak little runt has put the big, bad bully on his butt--David vs. Goliath, the English fleet vs. the Spanish Armada, and the small-town hoops team in Hoosiers vs. the rest of Indiana. Well, add to that list Branford vs. Saybrook in men's football. After getting pasted last year 44-6, BFA proved on Monday that defense does indeed win ball games, as they shut down the potent SY attack, 1-6. Leading the way to glory were seniors Anthony Young, Patrick Bareiss, Michael Smith, and Christiaan Vorkink; juniors John Foster-Keddie and Anil Kalia; and sophomores Aaron Zamost and Randy Wolfe, who put on a clinic that would have made Mike May '98 proud.

Not to be outdone by their elder (and bruised) counterparts, undefeated men's soccer snatched 11 more points out of Saybrook's greedy hands later that afternoon, as Maceo Montoya '02, with support from fellow frosh Nestor Rodriguez, Joe Doctor, Justin "I Rearranged My Schedule So I Could Play IMs Every Afternoon" Vaughn, Tet Okamoto, and Erik Calloway, scored in overtime to complete a 2-1, come-from-behind victory.

Other sports are following suit--coed volleyball stands at an impressive 2-1, women's soccer is 2-0 (maybe our partner JE doesn't suck after all?), and golf even shot a one-under. The points are starting to roll in at a furious pace. Face it, Yale, you'd better get used to seeing Branford at the top of the charts, 'cause now that we've risen from the depths, we ain't goin' back.

Back to IMs...
