Women's soccer: Bulldogs start the season in flawless style

The women's soccer team is off to a dazzling start after wins over Fairfield, Siena, and New Hampshire this week. In the match against Fairfield on Fri., Sept. 11, captain Annie Kwon, CC '99, led the Bulldogs to a come from behind 2-1 victory. "We feel so fortunate to have such a great leader who always keeps her head up in tough spots," defender Robyn Harris, SY '99, said of Kwon.

"They scored first, but we stayed really composed," said. "Our defense did a great job holding Fairfield's forwards. Danica [Lieberman, TD '99] really shut them down." Elisabeth Laderoute, CC '00, and Sarah Peterson, PC '02, both had strong efforts platooning in goal.

The home opener aginst Siena provided much less drama for the home fans. The overmatched Saints did not attempt a shot while Yale took 45 to notch a 7-0 win. Jill Rubenstein, DC '99, showed she has recovered fully from her knee injury, scoring two goals in just her second game back. "We were on a different skill level," Kwon said. The large home crowd got to see every Yale player in action. "There was such a great turnout and it really boosted our spirits," Harris said.

On Wed., Sept. 16, Yale defeated New Hampshire, a team to which Yale has never lost, in yet another strong effort. Sarah Ruiz, SY '02, scored Yale's only goal midway through the first half, helping to boost Yale to a perfect 3-0 record.
