Women's Golf: Steady Elis dominate Dartmouth Invitational
When the women's golf team shot a combined 310 on
the first day of competition at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sat.,
Sept. 19, it put itself in position to win. Unfortunately for the Elis,
Hartford shot an amazing 305. But Sarah Seo, TD '02, was not worried. "We
thought that if we shot 310 again, we would probably win," Seo said.

Close enough. The team shot a combined 311 the next day, which was more than
enough to catch Hartford and win the tournament. Captain Kate Fisher, PC '99,
said that she could not remember four Elis ever breaking 80 on both days of a
tournament.
Seo particularly excelled, leading the team with a two-day score of 146.
Fisher was impressed but not surprised. "She has a beautiful stroke," Fisher
said. "She placed second in our student tournament two weeks ago."
The low, consistent scores pleased Fisher, who said, "If we shoot a 621 at
every tournament, we would have a hard time not getting an NCAA bid."
The golfers are now focusing on more immediate goals, like winning this
weekend's Yale Invitational tournament, which the Bulldogs have won two years
in a row. Seo expects the team will be helped by its familiarity with the home
course. "There are spots that you want to avoid," she said. "The first couple
of times I went there, I got 9s and 10s."
The two-time defending Ivy League champion Elis also expect to succeed at the
league championship in the spring. "We have a really good chance of winning
Ivies," Seo said. "At Dartmouth, we beat Princeton easily, and we didn't play
to our full potential."
