Top guns
Harvard women's hockey
Ever since defeating the then-top-ranked New Hampshire
Wildcats for the first time on Mon., Dec. 7, the Harvard women's hockey team
has been unstoppable, winning their last 13 games and the No. 1 ranking. The
team dismantled a talented Princeton squad 6-0 on Sun., Jan. 10. With the top
four point scorers in the ECAC--including members of both the Canadian and
American 1998 Olympic hockey teams, which finished second and first,
respectively--the team is gunning for its first Ivy title since 1989 and an
invitation to Minneapolis for the second annual women's hockey national
championship.
Doing it on the road
Dartmouth men's basketball
Playing their second Ivy League game in as many nights proved to be no problem
for the Dartmouth men's basketball team, as they defeated Cornell 69-58 on
Sat., Jan. 9. They remain in first place in the league with three consecutive
wins, all of which have been on the road. Picked to finish as low as seventh in
Ivy preseason polls, the Big Green have foiled the pundits with their gritty
victories, including a nailbiter over Columbia on Fri., Jan. 8. The squad is
led by the top rebounder in the nation, Ian McGinnis '01, and the league's top
two scorers, Greg Buth '01 and Shaun Gee '00.

Brown women's hockey
In the last four-and-a-half hours of hockey that the Brown Bears have played,
Alison Brewer '00 has not allowed a single goal past her, setting an ECAC
record. Brewer has allowed only 14 goals in almost 800 minutes of play and has
recorded seven shutouts. For her efforts, Brewer won ECAC Player of the Week
honors for the third time this season. With a 1.06 GAA, Brewer is looking to
lead the league for the third straight season. The team is currently in third
place in the ECAC and sports a 9-1-3 record.
