Big Green sweep
Dartmouth men's basketball
On Wed., Jan. 13, Dartmouth defeated Harvard for the
second time this year, 69-67. This Big Green victory marked the first season
sweep for either team in this series since Harvard took the honors in
1993-1994. Sophomore Ian McGinnis posted 10 rebounds and a career-high five
assists. He is currently averaging 12.6 rebounds, which is tops in the nation.
Greg Buth '01 also stood out, leading the team in scoring with 22 points.
Although Dartmouth has been off the court for nine days due to exams, they
return to action against Denver on Sat., Jan 23.
Movin' on up
Dartmouth women's hockey
Although Dartmouth women's ice hockey is only in fourth place in the Ivy
League with a 1-2-2 record, they made great strides in their game against the
University of New Hampshire, ranked No. 2 in the nation, on Fri., Jan. 15. The
Big Green trailed New Hampshire 3-2 until Carrie Sekela scored the game- tying
goal with only 3.7 seconds remaining. The goal not only brought Dartmouth a 3-3
tie, but also earned Sekela honors as Ivy League Player of the Week. The play
began when forward Kristin King's '02 pass was deflected to Sekela, who slapped
it into the net. The game may go into the books as a tie, but Dartmouth's
impressive performance is a clear sign that they have what it takes to win
challenge for the Ivy title.
Top of the heap
Harvard women's basketball
Cantab women's hoops struggled with seven different starting lineups this
season, yet they found the perfect combination in their match-up against
Dartmouth on Wed., Jan 13. With 10 seconds left, the Crimson trailed the Big
Green 63-62. Only seven seconds later, forward Katie Gates '02 hit a 30-foot
running jumper. Dartmouth was sent packing with a 65-63 defeat. Harvard is now
tied with Princeton for the top spot in the Ivy League.
