Women's Track: Seeking spring success
While achieving some strong individual performances last
weekend, the women's track and field team is searching for impressive finishes
as it gears up for the spring season. Although the Elis are in the midst of the
indoor season now, the spring competitions, which begin in March, are not far
off.
Last weekend the team competed twice. The distance-medley-relay team and two
distance runners competed at the Boston University Terrier Classic, and other
runners and field athletes competed at the Northeastern Husky Open, which also
took place in Boston.
Despite finishing fifth at the Northeastern meet, a sense of optimism pervaded
the team. "The purpose of the meet was to gain experience in a non-pressure
situation. We were overall very satisfied with the performances," said
runner Millie Grin-stead, TC '02.
The team will face tough competition come spring. Although the track team has
not faced any of the other Ivy League schools this winter, it feels ready for
taking on the competition.
After competing against Dartmouth and Brown, the Bulldogs realize they are
going to have to work hard in their individual events to achieve success.
They finished seventh in the Ivy League last year, and they expect
improvement this season in order to be competitive in the league. "The team
goal is to establish itself as competitive in the Ivy League. This goal can be
very realistically accomplished," Grinstead said.
