Branford

To everyone who thought we were done for the year after putting on a clinic of fall IM ineptitude, get ready to be proven wrong. The Branford IM juggernaut continues to pick up speed, and as the winter season begins to draw to a close, a number of teams' strong play has BFA positioned to make a run at the top half of the standings in the coming weeks.

Keeping pace with surging women's hoops are Branford's water polo players; after a tough 5-4 loss to CC last week, the team regrouped this week with impressive victories over SM and TC. As the victories grow, so too does the team's roster. Key contributors this week include the goal-scoring tandem of juniors Caron Kim and Rebecca Goodman and freshmen Mike Ambinder, Joe Doctor, and Justin Vaughn. Cameos from oh-so-buoyant Megann Young '01 and Mark Hatzenbuehler '01 also gave faceoff ace Mike Smith '99, defensive specialist Joanna Manders '01, and stonewalling goalie Meredith Trowbridge '99 some much-needed support. With three games left next week, the team appears to be clicking on all cylinders.

Any discussion of BFA winter success without mention of our ice hockey players would be terribly incomplete. Although not quite as successful as its thawed-water counterpart, BFA ice hockey has already increased last season's win total by more than 300 percent thanks to a spirited bunch of frosh who are skating circles around their elder brethren. Leading the way, diehard frosh Chris Harper, Brian Ferrara, Dave Lisson, and Chris Eckerle have led to success on the ice unknown in these parts since Yale went coed.

Keep on tearin' it up, Branford faithful; out of the ashes of the Tyng cellar we have risen, not to stop 'til we reach the top.
