Bitter battle
Princeton men's basketball
Although the men's basketball match between the Quakers and the Tigers on Tues., Feb. 9, looked like it would end up a blowout, the game turned into a classic battle between rivals. Princeton came back from a 24-point deficit at the half to defeat Penn 50-49. In the game's final seconds, the Quakers had a shot at victory, but junior guard Matt Langel's jumper was blocked by Tiger guard Brian Earl '99 with only two seconds remaining. The victory extended Princeton's winning streak to 11 games and left the Tigers alone atop the Ivy League standings with a record of 16-4 (7-0 Ivy).

Leaders of the pack
Harvard women's ice hockey
Before this season, the Crimson women's hockey team had never beaten the University of New Hampshire. But on Sat., Feb. 6, Harvard beat New Hampshire for the second time this season, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to win 4-2.

Harvard senior co-captain A.J. Mleczko scored the first goal of the game and had two assists. Mleczko currently leads the nation in scoring with 60 points. The win pushed Harvard into first place with a record of 18-1-0, while UNH fell to 14-3-5.

Seesaw affair
Harvard women's basketball
The Cantabs defeated visiting Penn 70-68 on Sat., Feb. 6, in a tight contest. The first half alone saw 10 lead changes. With eight minutes to go, the Quakers led 57-49, but the hard-charging Crimson came back to take the lead, 66-64. Diana Caramanico '01 scored a minute later to pull Penn to 69-66. Penn forced a turnover on the ensuing inbounds and scored again with 13 seconds to go. After a free throw by Cantab Sarah Russell '99, the Quakers had one last chance, but Jennifer Monti '02 blocked Erin Ladley's '01 buzzer-beater.
