Smack Zone
Ax
Never doubt the Ax. In between watching reruns of SI
Swimsuit Issue: The Video on TNT, I scored more Smack Bucks last week than
Morris scores on a typical Friday night at Beta. Watch as she and Goldenberg
bend over and take it again this week. As for their Smack reign, as Ice Cube
would say, "It's over, bitch!" Women's b-ball beats Columbia ($800), while
men's hockey will sweep Clarkson and St. Lawrence ($500 each), as Westie turns
away 50 shots on the weekend ($500). Has anyone else noticed that the Knicks
have won four straight? Put $750 on each of their games this week. Oh, and $10
says Louis' mom wants me. ($10 will pay for it, right, Lou?). Last Week:
+$1,210. Current Balance: $3,715.
Goldenberg
Do you listen to Will Smith? Did you like "Summertime" or
"Gettin Jiggy Wit' It"? If the answer to these questions is "yes," I'm sure
you'll join me in support of Miami this weekend as they exterminate the
Huskies. I've got Tim James scoring 20 ($2,000) as the'Canes walk over UConn
($500). Watch as the Blazers put a hurtin' on the golden eagles Big Willie
Style ($2,000). Yale's own version of the Fresh Prince, Isaiah Cavaco, will
dish out five and score 15 as Yale takes it to Cornell ($2,000). Oh, and Joey
"The Carlton" Ax will once again be denied as his B-hoops squad gets smoked.
Last Week: -$4,500. Current Balance: $9.
Morris
"Hi, I'm Joey Ax and I'm bitter, because everyone else in
sports scores way more than I do." A wise white man once said, "You gotta know
when to walk away and know when to run." Start running, boys. You have clearly
been abused by the resident diva of the bunch. I'm going to place my confidence
in the only boys around here with balls...the basketball team, that is. They'll
trounce Columbia ($750) and Cornell ($500). Men's hockey picks up at least one
win this weekend ($750) and a bonus ($500) if they take both. And $10 says
Z-man is the coolest guy on the Herald. (It's a sure thing.) Last
Week: +$4. Current balance: $5,754.
Sam Singer Guest
Although this is my official Herald debut, I've
been editing all year through my subliminal manipulation of executive editor
Carl Bialik. As proof, this week's Index doesn't resonate like last week's
($500). Goldenberg thinks the South can play sports, but for real basketball,
watch Tulsa beat Rice by five ($1000) and Oklahoma defeat Kansas ($1000). St.
John's will beat Georgetown by eight ($1000). Also, Tiger Woods will crush
Nick Faldo in match play ($1000), and Goldenberg's Crimson Tide will be pounded
by Mississippi ($500). Last Week: -$4,500. Current Balance: -$540.
Sam Singer, JE '01, got here because he sleeps with Carl Bialik, though he
claims to have won this week's Pick the Pros.
