Saybrook
Four years of sweet memories in Payne Whitney Gym linger
as the seniors depart its hallowed halls forever. What a change we've brought
to Saybrook IMs.
Men's squash: from 2-9 in '95 to 11-0 in '99, 53-2 in individual matches.
Women's basketball: from 0-11 in '95 to 10-1 in '99, captains Harris '99 and
Liu '00 leading the women to a showdown with Branford. Men's C-hoops: from 1-4
in '95 to 6-0 in '99, as the fab frosh five--Jim Keppel, Paul Ardire, Wong,
Jack Kukoda, and Angehr--bring the boom. Bowling: from 1-10 in '95 to 11-0 in
'99, seniors Kevin Irwin, Ben McGrath, John Whipple, Nate Bohn, and Scott
Yaecker and Natty Bloom '00 unstoppable. Women's V-ball: from 1-10 to 10-1,
seniors Nami Soejima and Lorky Libaridian, juniors Bloom and Teri Hickey, and
sophomores Alice Liu, Nambi Gardner, and Annie Eure finally ending the BK
v-ball dynasty.
Tues., Feb. 16, 1999. 10 p.m.: Jeremy Rissi '99 steps out on the ice for his
first IM hockey game. 10:05 p.m.: Rissi wipes out for the first time in an IM
hockey game. 10:36 p.m.: Rissi wipes out for the 100th time in an IM hockey
game. At least there are some things that never change.
I have a vision of an epic struggle in 2000 as many colleges fight to wrest
the Tyng from our grasp. I see the forces of Ashé and the Stiles moose
fighting fiercely for the Cup on the IM fields. I see a revitalized 'Houn led
by a frosh named Goldfarb with two championship shirts already under his belt.
I see a day when JE finally "sux" no more. But although the present is clearly
Saybrook, 2000 belongs to Morse. The writing is on the wall. Thessin,
Wilderman, Campos, Maturo, and Perkins, go forth and fulfill thy destiny.
(Compiled by a "Sorry Saybrugian" who is finally giving Payne Whitney a
well-deserved vacation, and who should know better than to insult "anyone" who
scores for his team.)
